routefly Location-Based Service Terms
Effective: October 27, 2026 · Published under Articles 12 and 19 of the Location Information Act (following the reference terms of the Location Information Support Center). For personal information in general, see the Privacy Policy. This is an English translation for convenience. If it differs from the Korean original (위치기반서비스 이용약관), the Korean original prevails.
Article 1 (Purpose)
These terms set out the rights, duties and responsibilities of routefly (the "Company") and the persons whose location information is used (the "Users") when using the location-based service provided by the Company, and other necessary matters.
Article 2 (Effect and changes of the terms)
- These terms are posted on this screen and take effect when a User agrees to share location while joining a hiking club room.
- The Company may change the terms within the limits of the law. When it does, it announces the changes, effective date and reason on this screen and the routefly home screen from 7 days before they take effect (30 days if the change is unfavorable to Users). Because the Company does not collect Users' contact details, it posts notices on screen instead of notifying individually.
- If you do not agree with the changed terms, you can stop sharing location in the hiking club room (Stop sharing in Article 8). Continuing to share location after the effective date is treated as agreeing to the changed terms.
- If a User suffers damage from stopping location sharing because they did not agree with the changed terms, the Company compensates for it.
Article 3 (Applicable laws)
Matters not set out in these terms follow the Act on the Protection, Use, etc. of Location Information (Location Information Act), the Personal Information Protection Act, the Telecommunications Business Act and other relevant laws and commercial practice.

Article 5 (Service and fees)
- Hiking club rooms: a guided hiking club leader creates a room, and the location (latest one), SOS, battery and boarding marks of members who agreed when joining are shown to that room's leaders (the chief leader and assistant leaders such as company staff the chief leader gave an assistant leader code to - as many as there are buses) and, if the chief leader linked the room with a company code, to that company office. Members' screens show the names of all leaders who receive their location and the company office (members do not see each other's locations). Locations are received from each member's own stop departure time (or from boarding). In case of distress, leaders can see a member's path from the last 2 hours after departure.
- Hike (my location, course guidance, records): your location is used only on your phone and not sent to the server (except as above when you join a hiking club room).
- Locations are measured by your phone itself with GPS (the browser's location feature or the Android app's location service) and sent from it. We do not receive them from mobile carriers or other location information providers.
- Fee: free. Data charges follow your carrier's plan.
Article 6 (Changes and suspension of the service)
- The Company may add to or change the service and announces changes on this screen.
- The Company may suspend all or part of the service for server maintenance, failures or network problems, natural disasters or national emergencies, or circumstances making the business hard to continue. It announces this in advance when possible, and otherwise on the routefly screens right after suspending.
- If the Company suspends or closes the business, it gives 30 days' notice and reports it under the Location Information Act.
Article 7 (Use and provision of personal location information)
- The Company uses and provides personal location information only within the scope the User agreed to when joining (showing it to that room's leaders).
- Notice of third-party provision: showing your location to leaders (the hiking club) is provision to a third party (Location Information Act Article 19(3)), so each time it is provided, the top line of the hike screen on your phone immediately shows the recipient (that room's leaders), the purpose (hiking safety) and the last time provided. In the Android app the same notice stays in the notification bar even with the screen off.
- You may postpone (withhold) consent. Without agreeing to share location you can still use the hike, course guidance and records; you just don't use location sharing in hiking club rooms.
- The following are exceptions even outside the agreed scope: requests by investigative agencies etc. under the law, and use in a form that cannot identify a specific person for statistics or academic research (the anonymous course statistics in Article 9).
- A 119 report is sent from your phone only when you choose it yourself on the SOS screen.
Article 8 (Rights of the person whose location is used)
- Withdrawing consent (fully or partly): you can withdraw all or part of your consent at any time.
- Location only: tap Stop sharing on the "📡 … sharing your location with the leader" line at the top of the hike screen. From then on your location is not received, and your location, walked path and records confirming use and provision of location information on the server are deleted immediately (the leader's list keeps only your name, seat and boarding marks).
- Full withdrawal: to delete your name too, ask the leader to remove you from the list, or request it at the contact in Article 4. It is deleted without delay. - Temporary stop: turning off your phone's or browser's location permission, or closing the hike screen, stops your location from being sent.
- Requests to view, notify or correct: you can request to view or be notified of the records confirming the use and provision of your location information, the recipient, reason and content, or the correction of errors, at the contact in Article 4, and the Company handles it without delay. Because the server deletes locations when the room ends and keeps no names or coordinates in the confirmation records, please give the room code and the date you joined when you ask.
- Children under 14 cannot join. The Company does not use the location information of children under 14 with a legal guardian's consent (age 14 or over is confirmed when joining).
- Children aged 8 or under etc.: the Company does not provide services that use the location information of children aged 8 or under, adults under guardianship or persons with severe disabilities with a guardian's consent.
Article 9 (Basis, purpose, period of retention and deletion)
| Personal location information | Purpose: leaders checking members' locations and preparing for distress. Walked paths are kept only in server memory (never written to files or the database); each person's last location and SOS are also kept in the room information file (mode 600) so they survive a server restart (2026-11-02). All are deleted immediately when you stop sharing, leave the room or the room ends. A copy (mode 600) kept when the room information file could not be read is deleted after 7 days (2026-11-03). When a room ends (except cancelled hikes), walked paths are made unidentifiable and used for course statistics (without nicknames or times, excluding the first and last 500 m). |
|---|---|
| Records confirming use and provision of location information | Basis: Location Information Act Article 16(2). Only the times of joining, removal, not boarding at departure, room end and SOS, with the room code and in-room number, are kept (no coordinates or names), for more than 6 months (200 days), then deleted. When you withdraw consent (stop sharing, leaving the room), your records are destroyed immediately under Location Information Act Article 24(4). |
Article 10 (Location information manager)
To protect location information and handle Users' complaints, the Company appoints a location information manager: representative 조길홍 (Gilhong Cho) (appointed October 2026). Contact by the email or Feedback in Article 4.
Article 11 (Compensation for damage)
If a User suffers damage because the Company violates Articles 15 to 26 of the Location Information Act, the User may claim compensation from the Company. The Company cannot be released from liability unless it proves there was no intent or negligence.
Article 12 (Dispute mediation and jurisdiction)
- Please first report disputes to the contact in Article 4. If not resolved, you can apply for a ruling to the Korea Media and Communications Commission under Article 28 of the Location Information Act, or for mediation to the Personal Information Dispute Mediation Committee (www.kopico.go.kr, 1833-6972).
- Lawsuits between the Company and a User follow the laws of the Republic of Korea, and the district court with jurisdiction over the User's address at the time of filing has exclusive jurisdiction. If there is no address, the district court for the place of residence; if neither is clear, it is decided under the Civil Procedure Act.
Addendum
These terms take effect on October 27, 2026 (first published October 26, 2026 - articles aligned with the Location Information Support Center's reference terms, adding user rights, compensation and jurisdiction).
Revised October 28, 2026: the leaders who receive locations are limited to the chief leader and as many assistant leaders as there are buses, and members' screens show the names of all receiving leaders. Rooms linked by the chief leader also make the hiking club's company office a recipient (shown on members' screens); when a room ends, locations are deleted and only a numeric summary remains.
